Mixology 101

Image
The Blue Hawaiian Cocktail The Blue Hawaiian cocktail has been around since 1957 when a bartender by the name of Harry Ye who  was working at the Hilton Hawaiian Village decided to mix pineapple juice, rum, curacao with sweet and sour mix. It's also the name of a 1961 film starring Elvis Presley. The best part about mixing this concoction is it's so easy to make and doesn't cost a fortune so it makes a fantastic, inexpensive, impressive punch.  I love this drink because it's a darling to decorate with pineapple and umbrellas.  At its simplest, it is a bottle or two of plain or coconut-flavored light rum, a bottle of blue curacao, a can of pineapple juice, and a bag of ice, mixed together in a beautiful punchbowl. The Blue Hawaiian is ideal for a Hawaiian themed soiree or toga party as this is a seasonal cocktail and is often considered a summer or warm weather drink Ingredients 3 ounces pineapple juice

Woman of the Month - December - Versace Barbie

Image
Here's Barbie for December 2012, the Versace Barbie. Just like a Bombshell, she's platinum blonde and showing a lot of leg, hair GHD straight, a lot of makeup but not a hint of jewellery.  She's an ultra-glam lady all dressed up to bring in the new year with style.  Do you have a favourite Barbie?

The Provender

Image
This is my favorite brasserie in London of 2012.  The Provender. http://www.provenderlondon.co.uk/ It's a fantastic, cosy little bistro on Wanstead High Street, East London, with a pretty al fresco frontage and a friendly, relaxed interior.  Here's the link to the current menu: http://www.provenderlondon.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/PRO_Menus_V12.6_NovUpdate_A4Folded_ForPrint.pdf   I'm looking forward to my next dinner there.

Esther Williams

Image
“The popular Andy Hardy series movies were MGM’s tests for its promising stars such as Judy Garland, Lana Turner and Donna Reed. If you didn’t make it in those pictures, you were never heard from again.” - Esther Williams We are so glad that Esther made it. She's such a breathtaking Bombshell. By age 16, Los Angeles native Esther Williams had earned three national championships in both the breaststroke and freestyle. She was the youngest of 5 children in her family. While Esther was on the 1940 Olympic team headed for Tokyo when World War II intervened, canceling the games – along with her hopes for the gold and international fame. In 1940 newspaper sports reportage, swimmers were frequently lined up for cheesecake photos, flashing big smiles and a lot of leg. It didn’t take long for legendary showman Billy Rose to notice the photogenic champion. Rose needed a female lead to star opposite Olympian and screen star Johnny Weismuller in his San Fr

Watermelon Sunday

Image
There is so much I love about summer. I love holidays, swimming, picnics in the park, going to the farmers market and all the lovely summer fresh produce. I love watermelon. I could eat it almost every day during the summer and I could never get sick of it. There is nothing better than cutting into a big, juicy, red watermelon. It is the perfect cool-down treat. It's natural, no additives, it's hydrating and slimming for your figure too!  Above, Christina Hendricks is tucking in to a slab of watermelon. She knows what's good!  Katy Perry loves it too!  And wears it. . . . . . and Nigella Lawson eats it. . .  Watermelon quenches Kim Kardashian's thirst.  Yum. Beautiful watermelon. . .  Here's  a shot of Jennifer Garner at the Farmers Market, picking up a watermelon. . .  Adrianna Lima doesn't want to get any watermelon stains on her clothes. . . And Giselle Bundchen matches her swimsuit to her piece of watermelon.

Orange Crush

Image
Here's another color post. Ok, this will be the last post on a color subject for this month. This is probably the most underrated, underused and overlooked color in the entire color spectrum. It's a warm glow of health. A simple orange. There's so much we could do with orange, and not just at this time of year when all we use it for is pumpkins and Halloween decorations! Try slicking some orange colored lipstick on your lips today. Or an orange rinse in your hair Claudia Schiffer (with very slim legs) by the pool Here's Emmy Rossum in orange on a TV chat show. Scarlett Johansson matching her brighter shade of orange lipstick to her ensemble. And Marilyn Monroe in orange Pucci Verushka in Pucci, too. Inspiration in the little details. . . see? Simple. Natural. Pretty. And we have Yasmeen Ghauri in a hot orange bikini. . . and a bouquet. Is that e nough inspiration for you to get your Orange on?

Yellow Fever

Image
It's time to turn our attention to the happy, sunshiny, feel good color of yellow.  Now yellow is not as easy to frock up in as blue or red or even orange ( I'll get to orange sooner rather than later as it's too important to ignore). It's no secret that some women just look better wearing yellow than other women.  And when they wear yellow, wow they look so stunning! Now is the time to experiment to see if you are one of those lucky women who are yellow-friendly and fabulous.  Here we have the lovely Amanda Seyfried in yellow pattern. Yes, yellow agrees with her complexion.  Gina Lollobrigida demonstrating that even if you don't look great in yellow, you can look great on yellow furnishings.  Marilyn. Well, she looked great in everything...  Jaye Mansfield wearing a sunny swimsuit in the studio.  Dior does yellow  Yellow enhances things for Adriana Lima  Modern flower-child Alicia Silverstone in retro 70's print.
